Heartburn Remedies – The Natural Variety

Heartburn is one of those things that affects everyone from time to time. Usually because we have eaten too large a meal or our Indian takeaway has been a bit too spicy, there are numerous causes.

There are millions of people out there however, for which heartburn is a real debilitating illness which causes them pain and discomfort on a daily basis.

Finding a heartburn remedy which works can be difficult and expensive but it doesn’t have to be!

Pharmacies and other stores have shelves which are groaning with heartburn remedies which may work for limited amounts of time – taken over a prolonged period these can actually damage other areas of your health for example they have been linked to hypertension.

Your doctor will be able to prescribe medication which may be more effective but for most of these medicines there is a limit on the length of time you can take them – usually about 3 months. Why? Well, after this time it is possible that the heartburn medication could encourage your stomach to produce more acid and therefore make the problem worse.

So what can you do?

There are a number of totally natural remedies for heartburn which you could try, most of these are food stuffs or ingredients which you can find in your kitchen cupboards or at the grocery store.

Here are a few examples of natural heartburn remedies:

1. Milk – Yup! a glass of semi skimmed milk can work wonders on a bad case of heartburn.

2. Raw, unsalted almonds – Try eating anywhere from 5 – 10 when you feel the heartburn begin. These are also great to have in you brief case or desk at the office if you often suffer after lunch.

3. Distilled white vinegar in water – this is a really old heartburn remedy and it really does work.
