Medications that Cause Heartburn
As we know virtually all medications have side effects. One side effect of some medications is the development or worsening of GERD. The following types of drugs have been implicated as causing or making acid reflux worse.
Medications are necessary and before stopping any medication seek the advice of your doctor. Do not stop taking your medications just because they are on the list below. There maybe a substitute medication that can be taken as an alternative to the one below. There may be typos, if there are please let me know, as I am posting these meds in the files at the group sight.
Calcium Channel Blockers (for treating heart deisease):
Adalat (nifedipine)
Cardizem (diltiazem)
Calan(verapamil)
Sedatives:
Valium (diazepam)
Libriaum (chlordiazepoxide)

Sometimes the for that the medication comes in can be a problem for people with GERD. Liquid is best, Tablets are good, but capsules can be problematic. In particular gelcaps because the stay in the esophagus for much longer and can harm the esophagus directly.
